Today, we are opening a new way to work with your Hitsteps data: the Hitsteps MCP server is now available to customers.
You can connect Hitsteps to a compatible AI assistant and ask questions about your website in ordinary language. Instead of exporting a spreadsheet, taking screenshots, or searching through several reports, start with the question you actually want answered:
“What changed on my website yesterday, why did it change, and what should I do next?”
Your assistant can use the Hitsteps tools you authorize, work with current data from the websites you are allowed to access, and give you an answer you can question again. You can ask for a breakdown by page, source, device, country, campaign, or date range without rebuilding the analysis from scratch.
Ask your analytics a question, not just for a report
The Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is an open standard that lets AI assistants use structured tools and trusted data sources. The Hitsteps MCP server gives a connected assistant purpose-built analytics and operations tools. It does not ask the assistant to guess from a screenshot or run unrestricted database queries.
This makes conversations such as these possible:
- “Compare the last 30 days with the previous 30 days. What are the three changes that matter most?”
- “Which pages and referral sources brought the most valuable visitors this week?”
- “What is happening on my website right now? Show active pages, sources, countries, and anything unusual.”
- “How much attributable traffic came from ChatGPT and other AI assistants, and which landing pages benefited?”
- “Did traffic really fall, or is there a tracking or uptime problem?”
- “How are my goals, campaigns, funnels, and returning visitors performing?”
- “Which entry and exit pages need attention?”
- “Give me a concise morning brief and recommend one action.”
The most useful part is the follow-up. After receiving an overview, you can say, “Only show mobile visitors,” “compare that with the previous campaign,” or “break the decline down by browser and entry page.” The conversation can move from a number to an explanation and then to a practical next step.
87 purpose-built Hitsteps tools
The first release includes 87 tools: 54 read tools and 33 confirmed write tools. Together they cover much more than a single traffic summary.
Traffic, content, and acquisition
Ask about pageviews, visits, new and returning visitors, bounce rate, traffic trends, top pages, entry and exit pages, referrers, search, social traffic, campaigns, countries, devices, browsers, operating systems, AI referrals, bot traffic, downloads, outbound links, and page timing.
Realtime, conversions, and behavior
Review anonymized visitors online, active pages, goals, campaign performance, funnels, aggregate paths, retention, heatmaps, video engagement, Hitsteps Triggers (visitor labels), tracking health, and uptime status. The server uses privacy-shaped results and intentionally leaves sensitive visitor details out of broad analytics responses.
Safe operations when you authorize them
A read-only analytics connection cannot change your Hitsteps setup. If you separately grant the required permission, your assistant can help create or update supported websites, goals, campaigns, Triggers, uptime monitors and contacts, alerts, and authorized chat workflows.
These actions are deliberately controlled. Every write requires the matching OAuth scope, your existing Hitsteps permission, an exact proposal, and explicit confirmation. Hitsteps also rechecks website ownership, account status, feature availability, and plan limits when the action is executed. There are no silent changes.
Your Hitsteps permissions still define the boundary
Connecting an AI assistant does not bypass the access rules already protecting your account. The server checks the signed-in account, sub-user status, assigned websites, granted OAuth scopes, and current license state on every request.
Public AI clients use Hitsteps OAuth with S256 PKCE. You sign in on Hitsteps, review the requested capabilities, and approve the connection without copying your Hitsteps password into the AI assistant.
We also designed MCP usage telemetry to be privacy-minimal. It does not store your prompt text, tool arguments, model tokens, analytics result rows, raw user agents, or full error messages. Limited operational metadata—such as the tool name, status, duration, credential type, and time—is retained for reliability and usage analysis.
Use Hitsteps from the AI assistant where you already work
Hitsteps provides a managed remote Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint, so customers do not need to run a local Node.js or Python server. It can work with compatible versions of ChatGPT, Codex, Claude, Cursor, VS Code and GitHub Copilot, Gemini, and other clients that support remote MCP servers. Connection screens and availability can depend on the assistant and workspace plan.
