Statify vs Hitsteps for WordPress

Hitsteps shows who is on your WordPress site right now and keeps your visit history on Hitsteps servers, not in your WordPress database. Statify lists a dashboard widget with a chart of site views, referrers and target pages, and stores its counts in a database table inside WordPress.

This page sets out what each tool lists, checked on 29 October 2026, and where Hitsteps goes further: a live visitor view on Free, chat from Starter and click heatmaps from Growth.

Where your views are stored

With Hitsteps, the WordPress plugin adds the tracking code and each visit is recorded on Hitsteps servers. Your visit history is not kept in your WordPress database.

Statify is a free plugin from pluginkollektiv. Its WordPress.org listing says it counts site views, not visitors, and shows an interactive chart followed by lists of the most common referrers and target pages in a dashboard widget (checked 29 October 2026).

The listing says Statify keeps its data in a table in your own WordPress database, for two weeks by default, with a longer period as an option, and a daily job deletes older rows. It also says the database volume can be expected to grow, especially when you lengthen that period.

The Hitsteps Free plan has a live visitor view for 1 site, up to 2,000 pageviews a month and 14 days of history. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month.

Live visitors and visit detail

Hitsteps answers who is on your site right now. On Free you can open an active visit and follow its page path as it happens. See real-time visitor tracking.

The Statify listing describes view counts, referrers and target pages. It does not list a live visitor view, visit paths, funnels or heatmaps (checked 29 October 2026).

Hitsteps does not record or replay sessions. Its visitor path is a sequence of observed pages.

What each option gives you

What Hitsteps adds

Use Hitsteps when you want to see visitors as they arrive, follow a visit page by page, or add chat and click heatmaps as your site grows. Your visit history stays on Hitsteps servers rather than in your WordPress database. The trade offs: you need an account, your visit data is stored by Hitsteps, and Free has a pageview limit. Like any analytics script, it can be blocked by ad blockers, so check it by watching your own visit arrive in the live view.
