Optional browser device context

See battery context when a visitor browser provides it

Hitsteps can display battery information for tracked visits when the visitor's browser and device expose a supported Battery Status signal. Many browsers do not provide this data.

  • Show battery status only when a compatible browser supplies the signal
  • Keep unsupported, blocked, or unavailable battery data marked as unknown
  • Use battery level as optional device context, not proof of visitor intent

What it does

Treat battery data as a limited contextual signal

When the value is available, it can add momentary device context to a visitor view. It should never be assumed for visitors whose browsers withhold it.

Visitor battery level is optional device information exposed through supported browser capabilities during a tracked visit. Availability varies widely, and the value does not explain a person's urgency, location, identity, or likelihood to convert.

Available battery reading

Display the battery level or charging context supplied by a compatible browser during the tracked visit.

Explicit unknown state

Leave the value unavailable when the browser, device, consent state, or tracking conditions do not provide it.

Visitor detail context

Review an available reading alongside page activity and other permitted device signals without assigning motivation to it.

Product proof

Hitsteps is a maintained analytics product, not a throwaway script.

Use it when you need live visitor context, practical installation routes, and action tools around the traffic you already have.

Practical context

Battery information is unavailable in many browsers

Browser vendors may omit or restrict battery APIs for privacy and fingerprinting reasons. Device type, browser version, permissions, consent, and tracking conditions all affect availability.

An unavailable value is normal and must remain unknown. A supplied value is temporary device context, not a reliable behavioral segment or personal characteristic.
Workflow

How to use optional battery context

Check whether the value is available

Start by distinguishing a supplied reading from an unsupported or missing value; do not substitute a default estimate.

Keep the observation time-bound

Battery state can change quickly and describes one device at that moment, not the visitor across future sessions or devices.

Review the wider journey

Use pages, actions, and explicit customer requests as stronger evidence than an isolated device status signal.

Avoid sensitive assumptions

Do not infer a person's identity, situation, urgency, or purchasing intent from battery information.

Use cases

Appropriate uses for available battery context

Support awareness

If a customer is already asking for help, an available low reading can encourage a concise response without assuming why it is low.

Device context review

Use the optional signal alongside browser and device class when investigating a particular tracked visit.

Coverage auditing

Monitor how often the value is unavailable so reports do not imply that compatible readings represent the full audience.

Questions and answers

Visitor Battery Level FAQ

Clear answers about what this feature reports, how to use it, and where its limits are.

Can Hitsteps see every visitor's battery level?

No. Battery information is shown only when a compatible browser and device expose a supported signal and the tracked visit is permitted to send it. Many browsers do not.

Does a low battery level mean a visitor is in a hurry?

No. Battery level does not establish intent, urgency, location, or circumstances. At most, it is optional device context available at one moment.

Why did battery information disappear for a browser?

Browser vendors can change or remove API support, and privacy settings, device behavior, consent, or blockers can prevent the signal. Missing data should remain unknown rather than estimated.
